Last week’s Extension School attracted nineteenfarm ers. Those attending included: A. C. Hensley, Thomas Utz, Thomas Williams, H. E. Henry of Castleton, and four Culpeper County farmers, also Maurice O’Bannon, Lee Payne and son of Woodvllle; Allen Stokes of Sperryville; Charlie Compton, Jim Massie and Billy Fannon of Amissville; Dabney Eastham of Flint Hill; Tom Massie, John Cargill and Randall Updike of Washington.
Now that the snow has gone better get rolling on those soil samples again. Haven’t had many in a couple weeks. Tom Utz brought three samples to the school. Also borrowed our hay sampling tool in getting complete tests on his forages During the last week in Janu ary five farmers brought 28 soil samples in as compared to but 2 farmers and 7 samples during the 7 day period February 9th - 16th.
Test results in corn silage samples submitted by A. C. Hensley and Thomas Utz rated “excellent" and "gpod” based on net energy indexes. A net energy index of 20.1 and up is considered “Excellent” qual ity; between 17.1-20.0 “Good” 12.1-17.0-“Fair”, while NE index of 12.0 and lower is considered "Poor”.
