Rainfall in Washington, Va. Monday was measured at 2.40 inches. Ares streams were turbulent and bottom land covered with water. In the higher elevations the moisture froze on the trees and remained there all day Tuesday. This picture tahen at Panoranui late Tuesday afternoon shows the ice laden trees creaking under their heavy burden. In places trees could not withstand the strain and weight and limbs were broken and whole trees felled.
