Although they can be used in any room, table covers are most interesting in the dining room. One custom that's gaining favor is to use a cover extending to the floor on all sides; this is covered with a drop cloth when the table is used for dining. When the drop cloth is at an angle, its points, colors and patterns contrast pleasingly with the under cloth.
Also receiving more use are the balloop shades, Roman shades and roller shades. These are made of plastics, paper or fabrics. Some are in solid hues, and others are in patterns, with or without trims. Decorative roller shades are easy to make and they add much interest to windows. All you need are a spring roller, staple gun, fabric and trimming. Do be sure,. Miss Habel emphasizes, that the fabric has a tight weave so you won’t have too many wrinkles. The Roman shade is essentially a more decorative version of a roller shade. You can get a special flat tape to use in making it. The balloon shade is drawn up in the same way as the Austrian shade, except that it balloons only at the lower edge of the shade. It is more tailored and very elegant. The greatest improvement in wallpapers, Miss Habel feels is the better design. In addition, newer methods of attach ing the paper to walls have out moded the brush-on paste method in many instances.
