Dove Hunters To Be Granted Extra Hours As a result of a recent ruling by a U. S. Department of the Interior solicitor, dove hunters in Virginia and other Southeastern states may legal ly begin shooting at 12 noon eastern daylight time through October 28, according to Game Commission Executive Director Chester F. Phelps. According to the Standard Time Act of 1966, eastern daylight time is to be considered “stan dard" time during the period when it is in effect. Thus, since U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service regulations estab lished dove shooting hours as from noon to sunset, standard time, each day, this has been construed to mean daylight time dur ing the portion of the season when the fast time is in effect. The Virginia Com mission of Game and Inland Fisheries adopted the shooting hours as prescribed by the Fish and Wildlife Service verbatim so the ruling will apply equally to Virginia Law. Dove hunters will gain one extra hour of shooting through October 28. and during the first part of seasons in future years unless the hour is changed from the cur rent noon opening.
