1. Circular Crowding Pen for Dairies With Automatic Gate. Developed from a need to eliminate labor for driving cows into milking.parlors. The gate maintains constant 'pleasure behind the cows a is a result of the weight suspended by a cable connected to a wheel oft fop qf thejjate post. The gate and accessories can te fabricated in a farm shop eqftipped with a welder. This pen can be provided adjacent to the milking parlor and within the 50 feet distance between the parlor and the paved confinement lot. 2. Fence construction continues to be a problem on all farms. Use of proper construction methods and materials are necessary to insure long lasting fencex with minimum upkeep. A 'new type of barbed wire fencing, called Suspension, or Semi-Suspension, has created much interest in low costfenc ing for cattle. According to Dan Kite, Va. Tech Ag. Engineer, this type of fence can save over $200 per mile as compared to conventional fencing. It is recommended for interior fences on farms. One type of wire fence stays used in this type of fence can be purchased from Wire Products Division, P. O. Box 82, Gardendale, Alabama for approximately 170 each. Wood postsare required only at 50 to lOOfeet intervals. The stays are placed at 12’ to 16' intervals.
