AT A REGULAR MEETING OF THE RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION HELD ON THE 20th DAY OF MARCH, 1968, THE FOLLOWING AMENDMENT TO THE SUBDIVISION ORDINANCE OE RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY, VIRGINIA WAS CONSIDERED:
WHEREAS, an ordinance to regulate the subdivision of property into lots, streets, alleys and other public areas, to provide for the making and recording of plats of such subdivisions and the certification of same and provide for the approval of plats was adopted and passed by the Board of Supervisors on the 3rd day of January, 1962, for the county aforesaid, and amended the 25th day of April. 1964: and,
W H E U K A S, the Rappahannock County Planning Commission, after due consideration and study of the areu and subject matter of such reguest by the said Town Council, does hereby recommend passage by the Board of Supervisors of the following provision and amendment to the Subdivision Ordinance of Rap| ahannock Countv. Virginia:
BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County, that Section 1 of the Subdivision Ordinance of Rappahannock County, be amended and reenacted as follows: \-l PURPOSE
The purpose of this ordinance as amended is to establish certain subdivision regulations, standards and procedures for the subdivision of land with the tin incorporated portions of Rap| ahunnock County, Virginia, and such of its environs ns I come within a distance of two (2) i miles from the corporate limits of i the incorporated town of Washington, Virginia, as provided for by Section 15.1 -468, of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended.
These are part of a long-range plan to guide and facilitate the orderly beneficial growth ^>f the community, and to promote the public health, safety, convenience, comfort, prosperity nnd general welfare. More specifically, the purposes of these standards nnd procedures are to provide a guide for the change that occurs when lands and acreage become urban in character as a result of <1 evelopmont for residential, business or industrial purposes, to provide assurance that the purchasers of lots are buying a commodity that is suitable for development and use; and to make possible the provision of public services in safe, adequate nnd efficient manner. Subdivided land sooner or later becomes a public responsibility in that roads and streets must be maintained and numerous public services customary to urban areas must be provided. This ordinance assists the county in meeting these re-pon.abilities. This ordinance is known and may be cited as the “Subdivision Ordinance of Rappahan nock County" or the "Rappahannock County Subdivision Ordinance."
