Farmer, farm help, farm supply house, weed control specialist, chemical companies and your County Agent all cooperated last week in Rappahannock in establishing weed control demonstrations in corn. Pictured above is Gordon Thornhill of Rappahannock Farmers Co-op applying Sutan furnished by Stauffer Chemical Company through their representative, Bob Butler. At right is Leonard Tumblin incorporating the Sutan with the soil immediately after application, this followed by planting. The above is an attempt to try to control nutgrass on the farm of James F. Massie, located on 729 south of Ben Venue. Two acres were treated applying half gallon Sutan and 1V4 lbs. Atrazine per acre. That morning four one-acre plots were treated at General Noce’s farm on 211 west of Washington. Here all work was aimed/ at controlling panic grass and morning glory using: (1) Ramrod @ 4‘/2 lb. & Atrazine @ 1*4 lb. (2) A Londoz product (5 lbs.) of Ramrod and Linuron; (3) A Kerr Magee product (2 lbs.) consisting of Atrazine and Linuron; and (4) Primazine @ 2‘/2 lbs. per acre. Result demonstrations will be held in June.
