“1965 IRS figures show that 321 Individuals withannual incomes over $500,000 had farm operations. Some 8 out of 10 of these individuals claimed losses from farming.

"We know that some corporations and others enter farming primarily for tax purposes. Income can be put into building repairs, machinery, or livestock; losses can be credited against off-farm income. Later these losses may be recovered as capital gains, taxable at a much lower rate than income. We also wish to delve into this," he said. “In short, we need many facts and figures we do not now have to assess developing trends and their long-range implications to farmers and to the Nation.*
