Of the 8112 tested over a 7-month period, 6087 were 1st and 8th graders In public schools, 105 in private schools and 1772 were cafeteria workers, other school personnel plus 148 migrant workers. Thirty-nine reactors were found among the youth and 261 In the "other" groups tested. All reactors are being given further tests by the Health Department to see If the germs present have damaged the lungs. Percentages of participants among those eligible In the 1st and 8th grades by school systems are: Clarke County, 80%; Fauquier, 83%; Frederick County, 91%; Loudoun County, 75%; Page County, 79%; Rappahannock County, 84%; Shenandoah County, 85%; Warren County, 91%; City of Winchester, 87%; Sacred Heart Academy, 79%; Powahatan, 76%; John S. Mosby Academy, 61%; and Stanley Junior Academy, 100%. The Tuberculosis Association is most grateful to all of the official and volunteer personnel who assisted In this gigantic operation. With the Incident rate of less than 1% of the pupils, authorities do not anticipate that clas» rooms will be tested again for at least three years.However, it has been recommended that all pupils entering school be tuberculin tested at the time of their pre-school physical examination.
