Dear Editor,
I have never voted in a local election because Ihavealways thought that it didn’t matter much who was running or who won. It is interesting to f i nd that our election officials evidently share my feelings. It will be even more interesting to see what our county authorities will do about our recent illegal election.

New TB Treatment
Simpler, Effective
“There are 48,000 new cases of Tuberculosis in the United States”, according to Ea'ie Hoffman, president of the Tuberculosis and Health Association of Northern Virginia. “However”, says Mr. Hoffman “modem TB treatment is both simpler and more effective than ever before. It consists mostly of medication with pills - with very little change in normal living routines.”
Health leaflets and posters have been mailed to industries in the eight county area served by the TB Association, reminding employees to have a TB check-up. “Tuberculosis usually develops in two stages”, states Mr. Hoffman. “The first stage is infection, the germ enters the body without immediately causing sickness.” “In the second stage there is breakdown into active disease. This may never happen, but it did occur in 48,000 cases in one year. A tuberculin test shows whether you have TB infection. A chest x-ray shows whether there is any lung damage - a probable sign of active TB.” “If TB infection is found, today’s powerful anti-TB drugs can be used to prevent active disease. But - doctors have to find TB Infection before they can treat it.”
Baptist Cookout Planned
A ‘meet-the-family’ picnic cook-out is being sponsored by the men of the Amissville Baptist Church to be held Saturday afternoon, June 29 at the church grounds. The event begins at 5 o’clock and there will be games, food and a good time for all.
The food grilled by the men and the dishes furnished by the ladies will be served at 6:30 p.m. A hymn sing will follow the meal. Mrs. Mason Hitt is chairman of the committee arranging the extra dishes. Robert Andrews is serving as leader of the games and James Harper is overseer of the chefs.
