Richmond, Va., June 26 - Careful preparations and sensible driving can give every Virginia motorist an extra margin of safety during the July Fourth weekend, according to H. H. Scott, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Virginia Petroleum Industries. Pointing out that the holiday offers wonderful opportunities for travel and recreation, ^cott said certain basic suggestions apply to long and short trips alike.
“Wise motorists,” he said, “will plan their route in advance so as to take full advantage of any points of interest along the way. If time permits, they may want to use the less heavily traveled highways, where some of the finest scenery can be enjoyed. They also will have a reliable service station or garage give the family automobile a check-up to make sure it is in good condition.” Scott suggested these common-sense driving tips for added safety on holiday trips:
1. Allow plenty of time; avoid foolish risks. 2. Stop every couple of hours for brief rest periods.
3. Observe speed limits and stay alert to road, weather and traffic conditions. ' 4. Be courteous to other idrivers.
