Charlie Compton returned home Tuesday evening after attending the state convention of Rural Letter Carriers in Martinsville. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Poling and daughter Cheryl spent several days last week in Avalon, N. J. Dinner guests Thursday of the Polings were Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Poling of Alexandria and Mrs. Harold Poling and children of Dearborn, Mich. Mrs. Tommy Kidwell spent from Saturday until Monday in Beckley, W. Va. due to the death of a relative.
Mr. and Mrs. George Kidwell had as their guests for dinner Sunday Mr. and Mis. Donald Byroads and daughters of Clinton, Md.

Lewis C. Nelson, former native of this County, attended the commissioning ceremonies of the U. S. Hammerhead Nuclear Submarine sponsored by the Prospective Commanding Officer in Newport News, on Friday afternoon, June 28. Following the official ceremonies, a reception was held at the James River Country Club.
