Sgt. John M. Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Marshall Clark of Sperryviile, Va. spent 30 days leave at home and will return to his unit in Germany July 25. He is a graduate of Rappahannock County High School, class of 1963 and entered on active duty with the United States Army on February 8, 1966.
Upon completion of basic training, he attended and graduated from the U. S. Army Ordinance School at Aberdeen, Md. He was then assigned to the 2nd Division, 27th Artillery Bn. at-Frieberg, Germany.
While serving with the 27th Bn. John competed for the Marksmanship Team and because of his shooting ability was selected for the Battalion Team. He participated with the team at Gilhausen, Germany and while there was selected to shoot with the Division Team. He was a member of the Division Team a short while when he was selected for the USAREUR Team (United States Army, Europe). There are only 12 shooters and 3 coaches on the team and they represent 225,000 troops, so it is quite an honor and accomplishment to be part of this team. He was relieved of all other duties and this became his sole assignment.
While trayeling and shooting with the USAREUR Team, John visited many interesting cities in Europe, such as Munich, Berlin, Augsberg, Mienz and many others. The USAREUR Team came to the States to participate in the “All Army Matches” at Ft Benning, Ga. They did very well there winning 1st place in the 4E
