SS Act Violations Will Be Prosecuted
“Violations of the Social Security Act will be vigorously prosecuted,” Hazel F. Daly District Manager warned today Mrs. Daly said she had just learned that Ben Webb ol Pikeville, Kentucky and his wife Mandy were convicted ir Pikeville, Kentucky on June 11 for furnishing false informatior to the Social Securitj Administration and converting another person’s benefit to theii own use.
Mr. and Mrs. Webb each received a one year suspended sentence and were placed on five years’ probation. The Webbs listed a grandchild as their natural legitimate child for social security purposes and received erroneous payments. The payments made in error were then converted to theii own personal use.
“The conviction of Ben and Mandy Webb for violations involving false information and converting another person’s benefits to their own use should serve as a warning to all persons,’ Mrs. Daly pointed out. When itending to cause social security payments to be made where nont are authorized, a conviction ol each violation can mean as much as a $1,000 fine or imprisonment of one year, or both. Too, full restitution of the payments may be required.
Any suspected irregularities ol this manner are quickly and fully investigated by the Socia Security Administration.
