2,4-D is a safe and effective herbicide when used as recommended. It should be applied only to plants you want to kill using low pressure (30-40 pounds per square inch) equipment that will apply a wet spray ( no mist) when there is no. or very little, breeze.
It is safe to use in apple orchards. Always use a low volatile form. Butal esters are more tricky — avoid using this form.
Some plants and trees are more susceptible to the effects of 2.4-D than others.
Never use this chemical near tomatoes or grapes. Also, use with caution near oaks, locusts and dogwood.

Local Scouts Camp
At Rock Enon
Boy Scouts from the Washington and Amissville Troops spent last week at Camp Rock Enon at Gore, Va. They were Mike Massie, Eddie Williams, Albert Gatewood, Champ Carney,| Ernest Dennis and Jay Miller of I Troop 64 Washington and Alan Fergueson and David Fergueson; of Amissville Troop 50.
Mike Massie made life scout and received merit badges in nature, canoeing, life saving, conservation of natural resources and citizenship in the community.
Eddie Williams made first class scout and received merit badges in nature, canoeing, and marksmanship. Marksmanship is an extremely difficult badge to get and Eddie is the first scout from the Washington Troop to ever receive the badge at Rock Enon.
Albert Gatewood and Ernest Dennis both made second class scout and each was awarded a merit badge in nature.
Jay Miller also made second class scout and was given a merit badge in nature while Champ Carney was awarded merit badges in forestry and citizenship in the nation.
On Stunt Night which was held last Wednesday, each Troop presented an act or stunt. The skit which Albert Gatewood and Emest Dennis presented was declared by all to be the best and received the biggest hand.
