A former pastor of Luray will be the featured speaker at next Sunday’s Sunset Vesper service. Hie Rev. Dr. Fred E. Dufford has appeared on this platform in former years and each time draws large congregations to hear him preach the Gospel with power and conviction.

The vesper service will begin at 8:00 p.m. on July 28, following immediately the carillon recital by C. T. Chapman at 7:30 p.m. Hie musical setting for the evening will be presented by the Broadway High School Chorus, with Joseph W. Miller, as Director. Leader for the evening services will be The Rev. William A. Moon, Jf., pastor of the Luray Methodist Church, with The Rev. Dr. M. Jackson White, pastor of the Luray Baptist Church serving as Assistant Leader.

Dr. Dufford was born in Calhoun County, S. C. on November 13, 1903. He graduated from Pine Grove High School, Lone Star, S. C., in 1921; from Newberry College, Newberry S. C. in 1925; and from the Southern Lutheran Seminary in 1928. He has served pastorates at Prosperity, S. C., Greenville, Tenn.; and in Luray, Virginia. After five years at pastor of St. Mark and Bethlehem Lutheran Churches here he accepted the call of Advent Lutheran Church at Charleston Heights and has served there continously since Jan. 1,1948.

During his forty years in the Gospel ministry he has served on various committees and church boards. He has been chairman ol the Board of Trustees ol Newberry College since 1962, and has filled various speaking engagements in South Carolina North Carolina, Florida Tennessee and Virginia.

Dr. Dufford has been active ir the program of Boy Scouts o: America and has been awardee the Silver Beaver in recognition ol his service to boys. He has servec as District Chairman of Boj Scouts of America and for i number of years has been i member of the Executive Boarc of the Coastal Carolina Council ol Boy Scouts of America.
