Operating a boat without the required life preservers was next followed closely by hunting trespass cases. Hunting without a license, fishing trespass, and hunting during closed seasons were also leading offenses. A total of 273 persons were arrested for violations of the migratory bird laws with shooting over bait the leading offense followed by shooting after hours.
One hundred-sixty five persons were arrested for spotlighting deer. Unplugged guns and other illegal weapons resulted in the arrest of 151 hunters. Size limit violations prompted the arrest of 180 fishermen, mostly in the Smith Mountain and Shenandoah River areas.
