Storage, Drying
ASC Loans Available
Farmers who are short of storage space for biimper crops expected this year were reminded that the county ASCS office has information on available program aids.
J. S. Barksdale, Chairman, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, pointed out that the need to protect farm prices through orderly marketing-particularly at harvesttime-requires sufficient cribs and bins to store crops instead of rushing them off to market right from the field.
Commodity loans on stored crops can furnish immediate money and help farmers keep their crop off temporarily depressed markets thus strengthening prices, but this program depends on plenty of storage spece. And should a crop be high in moisture content, conditioning it before storage or marketing may be called for.
The Chairman reminded growers that loans for drying equipment as well as for building on-farm storage facilities are available to eligible farmers at the county ASCS office. Full and up-to-date information on the facility and equipment loans is available at the office for the asking.
Farmers this year expecially are cooperating on a wide scale in solving potential problems of flooded markets and depressed prices by limiting the rate at which they market their crops. But available storage continues to be a necessity in order to make such cooperation possible.
Amissville HD Club
Holds October Meeting
The Amissville Homemakers Club held its October meeting Monday evening. Hie group heard a report on the summer 4-H camp at Holiday Lake which was made by Susan Latham. Susan had attended the camp on a scholarship presented her by the Amissville Homemakers Club.
New officers were elected for the coming year and are: president, Mrs. Stanley Settle; vice president, Mrs. Charlie Priest; secretary, Mrs. George Lawrence; treasurer, Mrs. S. W. Riley; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Nelson Burner.
The 17 ladies present for the meeting had Christmas decorations as their project. Hiey worked on styrofoam balls covered with velvet and trimmed with gold and silver braid, and
