Organizing and coordinating the work of both teams of election reporters is the News Election Service. This service-NES--is a joint enterprise of the nation’s two major wire news services and three major broadcast networks. The participating members are The Associated Press, United Press International, the American Broadcasting Co., the Columbia Broadcasting System and the National Broadcasting Co.-AP, UPI, ABC, CBS and NBC.
TTie Virginia state manager for NES is Robert S. Gallimore of Richmond, chief of bureau in charge of AP operations in the state. Charles E. Mahon of Richmond, editor of the Catholic Virginian and a former UPI executive who headed NES operations in Georgia in 1964, is assistant state manager.
Gallimore, in outlining plans for collecting Virginia election returns, emphasized that NES will be the only agency collecting and reporting them on a statewide and nationwide basis.
