the next morning for our tour, the guide, grinning, looked at me and said “Oh there she is.” You will just hawr to imagine his reasons for jtemembering me the remainder of the trip; however, I didn’t disgrace Virginia.
The next afternoon we were driven to the Polynesian Cultural Center. This is an activity of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It perpetuates Polynesian culture while providing students of the Church College of Hawaii both scholarships and job opportunities. Here we strolled through the native villages of Hawaii, Tona, Samos, Maori (New Zealand), Fiji and Tahiti. The mode of living, the utensils, the tools, and handicraft was explained by natives of each place and in the native dress. We then had dinner, native or American as desired. After dinner as the stars came out in the heavens we descended the steps into an open air theater. We faced a wonderful natural background for the stage setting. Lighting was from above the seated audience. Here we saw a musical extravaganza entitled “Invitation To Paradise”. This musical featured 150 South Sea Performers, all college students and were natives of the above named places.
The curtain in front of the stage was not pulled or drawn like ours. Their curtain was colored water, raised higher and higher in the air until the change for the next act was made. It was beautiful. The thought that stood out in my mind was the determination of these students to gain an education. We wondered what time they found
