Tree Planting Now
William C. Vemam, Forester for Rappahannock County, reports that even though spring appears to be a long way off.yvith more cold weather and snow probable in January and February, landowners should be thinking about and planning for spring reforestation projects. Spring planting season will be here sooner than we think and landowners planning to reforest land this spring during March and early April should contact Mr. Vernam* in Warrenlon or Chief Forest Warden Raymond M. Johnson in Woodville so that they may obtain free planting assistance from the Virginia Division of Forestry
Free planting site examinations are available through the forest ; management assistance program of the Virginia Division of i Forestry. A planting site examination consists of looking at the proposed planting site and the making of recommendations for planting as to the best method of setting the trees, desirable species to plant, spacing and number of trees needed to plant the area. Assistance is also given in ordering trees from tlu; slat forest tree nurseries loblolly pine, .white pine, shortleaf pine, Virginia pine, yellow poplar, black locust and green ash are available at a cost of $15.00 to $10.50 per thousand trees delivered to the planting site.
