Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the social hall of the church. Mrs. Joe Cash was in charge of the guest book. Miss Janet Halstead and Mrs. James C. Garwood served at the punch bowls while Miss Kathy Reagan served the wedding cake.

For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Capps wore a gown of pink peau de soie and lace with matching accessories and a corsage of pink carnations. Mrs. George Whitby, maternal grandmother of the bride, wore a dress of blue silk crepe with white accessories and a white carnation corsage.

The bridegroom’s mother chose a mint green gown of silk organza with matching accessories. Her corsage was white carnations. Mrs. James C. Fincham, maternal grandmother of the bridegroom, wore a dress of blue lace over taffeta with white accessories and white carnations.

For traveling, the bride wore a white linen sheath trimmed in beige with beige accessories and the orchids from her bridal bouquet. Mr. Welch is presently serving with the U. S. Navy and is stationed in Norfolk. Mrs. Welch will enter her senior year at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond in the fall.

Miss Martha Anne Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Comer Smith, of North Garden, became the bride of Charles Long Smith, son of Mrs. Galley W. Smith, Jr. of Flint Hill and the late Mr. Smith, Saturday, July 19 at the home of the bride’s parents. The Rev. Edward Pruitt of Matthews officiated. Mrs. John Knight of Richmond was matron of honor. Galley W. Smith III of Virginia Beach served his brother as best man. The couple will reside in Richmond.

Service News

Spec. 4 Douglas Silvey of Amissville is spending a 30-day leave with his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Silvey Jr. He will leave late in August for Oakland, Calif, and from there will go to Vietnam for a tour of duty with the U. S. Army.
