Deer killed in Rappahannock County during the past week were all checked at Sperryville by F. D. Coffey. These included a 10 pointer taken by James Presgraves of Luray, and 5 point bucks by Wendell Thompson and Gary Stone both from Arlington.
The snow Sunday brings to mind the question of hunting with snow on the ground. All game may be hunted during the legal season with snow on the ground except quail. Quail may not be hunted in the snow where there is enough snow for tracking or where there is enough to make an almost solid background. Anyone who has seen a covey of quail come across their snow covered lawn can readily see how defenseless these birds are under such conditions. Bobwhite has enough to do trying to get food and grit and keeping away from natural predators during a solid covering of snow. Hunters should be wise enough to leave him alone during these periods.
