Work hy Congress
WASHINGTON -Rep. John 0. Marsh, Jr., said today that “Congress should work on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, if necessary to complete action on this year’s appropriation bills before the calendar year ends.”
Marsh, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, noted that the bills carry funds for the current fiscal year, which began July 1, and that many federal departments and agencies are operating under stop-gap authorizations to spend at levels of the past fiscal year.
‘‘However valid the explanations for some of the delays may be, the Congress should not allow 1969 to slip by without winding up the essential business of clearing the annual appropriation bills,” he said.
