The Christmas Day snow storm with resulting drifting as high winds whipped the light snow resulted in a rash of traffic incidents with little damage or injury.
On December 27 at 11:45 p.m. on Route 211 between Washington and Sperryville, two vehicles slid together H**nry Dale Weston of Red Stone Arsenel, Ala. operating a 69 Ford was struck from behind by John David Plum, jr. of Basset, Va. ina 68 Chevrolet. Weston slowed for snow in the road and was struck by the Plum car. There was no injuries and damage was estimated at $350 to Weston and $150 to Plum. / x
At 4:30 that day on Route 211 at the west limits of Sperryville a 66 Chevrolet operated by Ernest Leon Kennedy of Alexandria and a 66 Pontiac operated by Lee Anna Wharton of Sperryville collided. She slowed in the snow and he skidded into the rear of her car. Damage to the Kennedy
car was estimated at $46 and at $150 to the Wharton vehicle.
At 1:10 on December 28 on Route 622, two miles west of Washington (Harris Hollow) two vehicles crashed on an icy bridge. Benjamin Bruce Roy of Washington in a 65 Ford and Walter Bailey Schilling of Annandale operating a 65 Buick station wagon were involved. The Roy vehicle stopped and Schilling skidded into him. Bradford Keith Beebe of Cwstleioa operating a 195C Chevrolet skidded on ice and struck a bridge. Beebe sustained a shoulder and hip injury and was taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital. Damage was estimated at $200 the value of the car.
Another single-car crash took place on Route 211 just west of the Town Limits of Washington on December 31 about 1:30 p.m. Johnnie Davis Foster of Huntly was driving a 64 Pontiac which went out of control, veered across the road and struck the bank on the left. Damage was set at $400 and Clifford Junior Woodward of Washington, a passenger in the car, sustained back injury, and was taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital. James Granville Fox jr. of Front Royal received injuries in a collision with a cow Monday i night on Route 522 at Huntly. Fox sustained lacerations of the forehead and chin, abrasions of the leg and a possible back injury and was taken by car to Warren Memorial Hospital.
