Sift together flour and sugar into large mixing bowl. Blend in shortening and cup milk. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed of electric mixer or 300 strokes by hand. Blend in remaining milk, vanilla and eggs. Beat at medium speed 2 minutes or 300 strokes more. Turn into 2 greased and wax paper-lined 8-inch round cake pans. Bake in preheated 350° oven 25 to 35 minutes, or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting. Fill and frost with Desired Filling and/or Frosting.
