Downing L. Hitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Downing W. Hitt of Castleton, was promoted to Corporal (meritoriously) in the United States Marine Corps, December 8,1969. Cpl. Hitt is presently serving a tour of duty near Da-Nang, Viet Nam. He is a 1967 graduate of Rappahannock County High School.
