Dear Rappahannock Citizens:The
entire county is faced with a trash removal problem, Sometime ago your ./Board ol Supervisors leased a dump site near Amissville and employed a company to remove the non-bumables using the dumpster system that has proven very satisfactory in many parts of the country. To date this system has not worked satisfactorily for two reasons: 1. The company removing the non-burnable trash from the containers has not picked up the material on a tegular schedule. 2. The general public has abused the system using it for materials not intended to be removed.
Your Board assures you that the trash company will fulfill it’s contract or we will try and find one that will.
We sincerely request that the citizens use the dump and containers using the following discussed guidelines. Anything that can be burned, bum at home. Over half of the materials placed in the dumpsters are simple burnable materials. The added volume increases the cost to you the taxpayers and overloads the containers. This also causes a fire hazard at the county dump. Do not leave items too large for the containers at the container location. Take these items directly to the county dump at Amissville. Items too large for the containers cannot be packed into the truck. Therefore they are left at the location making it unsightly. Do not put garbage into these containers, this creates a health hazard at the containers and dump. If the container is full do not leave non-bumable trash outside the container. Materials left outside the containers generally get scattered all over the general location. Do not put brush and 'burnable* in the county dump.

We feel the dumpster system with the central dump is the only practical system of non-bumable trash removal that the county can afford. Even this method is expensive.
