Diane DeBergh of Washington has passed a course in ski patroling and is the first certified Junior Patrolman in Rappahannock or at Skyline Ski Area. She completed tests Saturday and prior to that had successfully completed a course in standard and advanced first aid, which are required. The ski patrol assists skiiers in any manner, including injuries, falls, tips or avoiding a mishap. They also keep an eye out for holes or bare spots on the slopes or any hazard or danger. The patrol is voluntary and each member furnishes his own equipment and pack. A toboggan like the one pictured here is used to bring a disabled skiier down the slope with ease. Diane is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. DeBergh and lives near the ski area. She has become quite accomplished at the sport. A young man from Front Royal, Doug Miller, who 1 learned to ski at Skyline was winner of the giant slalom, a 3,200 foot race at the Homestead last I weekend.
