Preston Named Outstanding Cit’xen
Sam D. Preston of Winchester was presented the Outstanding Citizen Award for 1969 by the Winchester-Frederick County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Preston was the first Extension Agent serving in Rappahannock “ County. His tenure here was from 1923 until 1927 at which time H. S. Barksdale assumed the position. Mr. Preston initiated the 4-H Club Program locally and Its organization was and has been most successful. After serving with the Extension Service for seven years, he assumed a position with the American Cyanamid Company until his retirement in 1957. A widower since 1965, he has two children, a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Brennan of Hollywood, Fla. and a son, Sam Preston, Jr. of Virginia Beach. Mr. Preston’s civic activities include the Lions Club, board of visitors of V.P.I., American Red Cross, Isaak Walton League, Winchester Welfare Board, Winchester Recreation Department, Director Winchester Memqrial Hospital, Mt. Hebron Cemetery. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge, the First Baptist Church and a director of Shenandoah Valley Bank.
