Have A Heart

February is Heart Month. The Virginia Heart Association is trying to conduct an intensive door to door campaign throughout the state in an effort to secure funds which have been deleted by federal cuts. Each of us knows what tremendous advances have been made in heart research this past decade. It is Imperative that this research continues.

Everyone in Rappahannock County can think of some prominent person, close Mend, or relative who has been stricken by cardio-vascular ailments within the past year. The deaths, due to heart and heart related problems, are higher than from any other one cause. In fact, they accounted for over 50% of the total deaths in Rappahannock County in 1969.

Great strides are being made to bring relief and longer life' to young and old heart patients. We in Rappahannock have received the benefit of oxygen equipment donated to our local rescue squads by the Virginia Heart Association. Presently, the heart association is involved in training the personnel of most area rescue units in the treatment of cardiac arrests. These are only a few direct ways our funds are used within the county.

Hie Rappahannock Heart Fund chairmen are trying to make this year one in which our fine young people take an active part. Many young men and women have volunteered their services to the district chairmen but more are needed. We now have a special need for someone in the Chester Gap and Castleton areas. If you can devote a little time and effort to this cause during February, jxintact one of the following chairmen: .
