Traffic Crashes
Two single-vehicle crashes and a two-car traffic collision occurred on Rappahannock roads in the past week.
At 10 a m. Saturday on Route 1002 in Sperryville, a pick-up loaded with feed ran off the road and down an embankment. Silas A. Beahm of Sperryville in a 60 Dodge pick-up approached the bridge near the Farmer’s Coop, ran off the left of the road and down the bank. He escaped injury, said investigating officer Trooper J. B. Willis, but his truck was a total loss. Beahm was cited for reckless driving.
William Elmer Haynes of Haywood, operating a 65 Ford station wagon, skidded on wet pavement on a curve and slammed into the cement abutment of a bridge on Route 231 south of Sperryville Friday afternoon.
According to Trooper W. A. Buntin, Haynes sustained a compound fracture of his left knee and internal bleeding. His wife, Glenna Juanita, received internal chest injuries and lacerations of the mouth. They were taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by Sperryville Rescue Squad.
Damage to the wrecked vehicle was estimated at a thousand dollars.
On April 4 on Route 707 a mile west of Slate Mills, two cars collided on a curve. This collision occurred at 7:30 p.m. and was investigated by Trooper Buntin, also.
Russell Edward Deane of Culpeper in a 1961 Pontiac and Billy David Meredith of Sperryville in a 67 Chevrolet owned by Edward S. Meredith, were involved.
Damage to the Deane car was set at $600 and at $450 to the Meredith vehicle. There were no injuries and Meredith was charged with reckless driving.
