The annual road hearing was conducted in conjunction with the regular meeting of the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors on Thursday, April 1. Petitions and requests were made by residents concerning secondary roads in the county. Resident Engineer James K. Skeens, James 0. Fitzgerald and Maintenance Supervisor Douglas Bywaters were present to note proceedings. Among items projected was a petition handled by Roy Beck for work on Route 604 to include widening and hard surfacing. He was joined by other residents for the hearing. Routes 600, 612, and 653 had a number of landowners and residents appearing and requesting the widening and stabilizing of these roads which are located in the trout fishing area near Sperryville.
Mrs. Alice Wood of Washington asked that the bridge on Route 624 just off Route 622 be widened to allow large trucks hauling fruit from the orchards a better angle for turning. Mrs. Lucy Triplett of Castleton asked for the widening and hard surfacing of Route 626 from 618 and 622.
George Gollaher and others from Rappahannock Park which is located on Route 645 made a request for improvements and Ray T. Cannon asked for work on Route 615, 604 and 617 and requested that directional markers for small villages be placed on secondary roads. Mr. Cannon was joined by Mrs. C. D. Scott and Mrs. Dorothy Scott for work on Route 615.
John Tapp of Amissville commented on the improvement made to Route 637 expressing ap preciation for the fine job done and added that he hoped another stretch could be done in the near
