Shenandoah National P&fk has announced that a new book on early events in the area of Shenandoah National Park has been published. The book “Herbert Hoover’s Hideaway,” by Darwin Lambert, is ithe story of a presidential retreat and the many behind-the-scenes happenings of one of America’s leaders during one of the world’s most trying periods.
The book was brought to life by the author through dozens of interviews with people who accompanied the Hoovers to the camp. It contains 157 pages and 72 historic photographs that portray both the political and human history that surrounded Hoover’s retreat and fishing camp on the Rapidan River.
The author, Darwin Lambert, is an authority on Shenandoah National Park, having at one time worked in the area for the National Park Service. He has traveled extensively and written
