In choosing between silvex and dicamba for chickweed control, Coartney prefers silvex because of safety of trees and shrubs. “Dicamba should not be used near shallow-rooted plants. It moves down into the soil and can be picked up by the tree or shrub roots to be carried to the leaves where injury results,” he warned.
