‘LET US take a look at some of the major roles Virginia’s Planning District Commissions are expected to play. First of all one Planning District Commission role is that of:
(1) Achieving Intergovernmental Coordination a - mong local, general purpose and special purpose governments or government agencies. This coordination is no longer a matter of convenience, but one of necessity.
For example, highway development affects land use patterns which in turn affect water and sewage needs. Water requirements can be related back to location of water impoundments. Land use influences local tax base and how well a locality can provide public services. These interrelationships do not stop at city or county lines.
A SECOND role of Planning District Commissions is that of (2) Gaining A Regional Overview. Application procedures for
