Cover Floyd Baker of Front Royal and Joseph Abraham Clatterbuck of Sperryville waived preliminary hearing and grand jury and entered a plea of guilty on two counts each in Rappahannock County Circuit Court Friday. Each was charged with grand larceny and breaking and entering in the June 23 burglary of the home of G.A. Burgers in Harris Hollow near Washington, Va.
Baker and Clatterbuck were apprehended by the owner, his son and a friend when they returned home to find the pair inside packing up loot. The two were trussed up by their captors and taken to the home of a nearby state policeman.
In court Friday, each was sentenced to five years in the penitentiary on each charge. Baker’s sentences were to run consecutively and one of his was suspended, (he will serve the other). Court costs of $410 were assessed. The case of Baker as an habitual offender has been continued.
