A sound approach
THE APPROACH to Sperryville’s pollution problem which developed at the meeting Monday night at the courthouse strikes us as an entirely sensible one. It is, indeed, ridiculous to think that a staggeringly expensive sewer system is the only possible way the community’s problems can be solved and the Thornton River cleaned up. It is, indeed, entirely reasonable to search for either limited applications of tried and true disposal methods, or for new technology, that might offer a more affordable solution. 2
It was ^heartening, too, to see that no one talked of the problem in the distressing way you hear in some "counties to the North of us—such as Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William. Up there, they always seem to go after the biggest and most expensive solution to pollution problems, on the misguided impression that bigger is always better, and that more will mean less—that more people attracted by a large sewer system will mean lessTn individual shares of the cost.
