The Directors of the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District, commend the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors and all of the other Rappahannock Agencies and individuals who have promoted the new zoning ordinances in our county.
It is time that all of us in Rapphannock County begin to work as a team and accept certain truths as being inevitable.
First of all, it is important to understand that Rappahannock County will grow. The only question is how fast and in what manner. Secondly there are valuable natural resources in Rappahannock County such as soil, wildlife, water, and rich agri? cultural land that can be permanently damaged or destroyed.
Much of the Soil in Rappahannock County is on steep slopes and their capabilities are severely limited. Catastrophic‘soil erosion and ugliness can be the result if we completely ignore their limitations. Rappahannock County is blessed with scenic rivers that offer vast potentials for water supply and recreation.
A poor alternative to good zoning is to build in our flood plains and, thereby, pollute our water, create hazards to life and property and render our water unusable.
