THE RAPPAHANNOCK SKI AREA reported the “largest weekend in its 10-year history’’ last week, and expectations for an even bigger weekend of skiing coming up. Russ Albert, Ski Area manager, said that more than 1,650 skiers were on the slopes last Saturday and Sunday. He said snow conditions remain “excellent,” and the area is expecting maybe even more skiers this week.
Albert said one enticement to skiers is an agreement by area gasoline stations to remain open during the weekend. He said Washington D.C. motorists will be able to buy gasoline in Rappahannock when they cannot find gasoline in Washington.
He has been assured by station owners that they will remain open and that gasoline supplies, are adequate.
Albert said snow machines have been busy all week. The area’s two chair lifts and three ground lifts will be in full operation. □
