Turkey season over
THE 1974 SPRING TURKEY season ended last Saturday, May 11, with a total of 15 gobblers being killed in Rappahannock. This almost doubles the Spring kill of a year ago when only eight were taken here. Rappahannock’s best Spring season was two years ago when 17 bearded birds were taken in the county. In addition to those named earlier, hunters having success here include Elwood Welch of Flint Hill, Michael Longmeire of Chester Gap and Roy Whorton with two gobblers and Marty Whorton with one, both of Amissville. By checking stations two were checked at Williams’ Grocery, Chester Gap; five at Bradford’s Store, Flint Hill; four at Baldwin’s Grocery, Washington and four at Jenkins Exxon, Amissville. Two turkeys, one killed in Fauquier and one in Culpeper, were also checked at Amissville.
The season for taking trout is closed this week. It will reopen Saturday, May 18. Trout streams to be restocked this week in Rappahannock and Madison are Piney River, Hughes River, Rose River, Robinson River and Garth Run. By Irvin L. Kenyon, 7 Game Warden
