SEVERAL nationally prominent folk-style musicians will join the dozens of local artists and craftsmen giving demonstrations and holding workshops throughout the college. Square dancing demonstrations with follow-up lessons involving audience participation are planned. Folk art and craft products will be on display. Since the festival is an educational rather than a commercial event, no buying and selling will be available.
Ralph Lee Smith and Reed Martin will be among the nationally recognized folk musicians performing at the Lord Fairfax festival. Smith specializes in the Appalachian mountain dulcimer and country harmonica while Martin is best known within folk festival circles for his contest performances and workshops popularizing the “clawhammer” style of five-string banjo Playing- .
Both Smith and Martin will display a variety of traditional folk instruments that they have collected. They will be conducting informal discussion sessions and giving help to persons who bring their own instruments to the fes
