Two topics have been on my mind to write you about for several weeks now, so here we are coming through at last.
FIRST I feel Rappahannock owes it to our spirited and competitive track teams to provide them with a quarter mile track with at least a 100 yard straightaway. Our high school boys and girls have been making track history in the district even without a track to practice on. Never do they have a chance to compete at home. There is no room on the High School grounds for track without interferring with the baseball diamond; BUT 1 believe there is plenty of room at the nearby Elementary School grounds. Think;—both schools could use the track!
Mrs. Quaintance, principal at the elementary school is enthusiastically receptive to the idea. Also the elementary school is contemplating having a Phys. Ed. instructor next term. A track would be a good project for him to ‘cut his teeth on’ and even though I haven’t had the opportunity to discuss the thought with him, I’ll wager Mr. Toth (what a contribution he has made to ' our Rappahannock young; people in their track and cross country endeavors!) will also put a willing shoulder toward the effort. OK School Board: OK Lions Club, you Ruritans, you J. C.’s. Let’s have your responses. Let’s have a track for our young people to practice and compete on.
