AT THIS meeting it was revealed that plans had been drawn up for possible locations which might serve as bypasses of Sperryville. Improving the road on its existing location was still an alternative, it was stated.
Early this year, the Sperryville Community Group asked for a meeting with representatives of the Department of Highways. The group, after being told there were different possible bypass routes south and north of town, expressed strong opposition to any bypass at all.
“As a result, the department is responding to what is apparently the majority view, and plans to improve Route 211 through the town, if the project as presented Wednesday gains final approval,” said a departmental news release.
THE PROJECT would begin west of Beech Spring in Shenandoah National Park and, preceeding easterly along the existing road, terminate at the western end of the Washington Bypass.
