silly arguments which have little to do with basic realities that we are all facing—silly irrevelancies about a man’s right to foul his own nest when all of us may be running out of air to breathe, water to drink, and food to eat.

It is easy to dismiss such concerns as “emotional” and “irrational,” as something contrary to that exalted goal which seems to be the quest of all “hard-nosed, realistic” and “practical” men—the “technological breakthroughs” which will enable us to continue being foolish and avoid paying the cost.

It is not so easy to seek truly realistic solutions and to truly stop “kidding ourselves.” But like a cancer eating its way through a once healthy body, nothing can keep “growing” forever, without having to suffer the consequences.□
