the 1972-82 road and street improvement plan approved by the General Assembly two years ago would serve as the basic guide in development of county secondary road budgets for the coming fiscal year. Over the 10-year period the plan envisions improvement to 9,800 miles of roadway and replacement or major improvement for 2,080 obsolete bridges on the vast secondary system.
Approximately 60 per cent of the total funds apportioned to the system for the coming fiscal year will be spent for construction improvements, with the balance to be used for maintenance operations.
In addition to the allocations to the counties, the secondary road budget includes a special $800,000 state-financed bridge improvement fund, $500,000 for recreational access roads, and $182,531 for planning and research.□
