PEOPLE who are “too busy” or so indifferent that they can’t even attend public meetings to hear the candidates who want to be entrusted with their public business, have no complaint if the people eventually elected turn out to be an unpleasant surprise.
This election business is a two-way street. Not only do candidates have to be informed and meaningful, so do voters. Be a good citizen. Pay attention to the candidates. Be informed about the issues as they are developed by the various candidates. Make your vote an intelligent one, not the expression of an emotional whim.
And then if your candidate turns out to be a dud, start marking the calendar until you get a chance to vote him out of office! Even then, you will at least have the satisfaction that you were betrayed by an expert, and not merely made a victim of your own ignorance. □
