Lt. General Daniel Noce, U. S. Army (Retired) died Tuesday, February 17 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. The 22 year resident of Rappahannock County was 81.
Noce was the first chairman of the Rappahannock Planning Commission and was the chairman of the Rappahannock Boundary Committee. He was also president of the Rappahannock Farm Bureau and was a member of the Rappahannock River Study Committee.
During his 37 year military career, Noce served as the assistant chief of staff and director of planning of aU the allied forces in the Mediterranean Theater during World War H. He was in charge of the fortifications of Manila and Subic Bay in the Phillipines. Noce was also in charge of the defense installations in Corregidor and prepared the plans for die Malinta Hill tunnels.
General Noce also organized the Engineer Amphibian Command and trained the First, Second, Third and Fourth amphibian Brigades which served during World War
