THE previously authorized allocation of $1,347,000 for Virginia 1976 Agricultural Conservation Program (ACP), has been changed to $2,742,000. The allocation was determined by the Secretary of Agriculture based on conservation needs in Virginia.
The revision in state allocations was made because of Congressional action denying the proposed deferral of $90 million of the contract authority contained in the fiscal 1976 appropriations act. The National funding level was changed from $85 million to $175 million.
ACP is administered by ASCS, and is designed to encourage the use of soil and water conservation practices on farms. The objective of the program is to obtain needed conservation on farmlands beyond that which the farmer would accomplish with his own resources.
