For rural children with limited chances for social contact, public or private kindergartens are doubly important for readiness for elementary schooling is largley determined by their prior exposure to stimulating environments. School failures are usually traced to sluggish environments in city or country. Dedicated kindergarten teachers can make up for severe deficiencies in either home or community, ultimately saving the taxpayer the cost of rehabilitation in hospitals or prison when today’s ignooed child becomes tomorrow’s ward of the state. Basically, whatever we do for our children is a gamble, but to do less than our best is to lose the gamble before we start.
